Gardening Diary – October 27, 2021

 

Original bed

Placed 10 posts in the original bed to provide support for the Autumn Fire Sedum [Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Fire’ (Hylotelephium spectabile)]. Need to add string connecting the 10 posts.

Heavily pruned the Coral Beauty Cotoneaster [Cotoneaster dammeri ‘Coral Beauty’] which extended over part of the porch and overlapped parts of the Sunny Anniversary Glossy Abelia [Abelia x grandiflora].

Started to weed parts of the bed covered by the Sunny Anniversary Glossy Abelia.

Put the pruned branches into the wagon.

Gardening Diary – October 23, 2021

Little Princess Spirea

Sharon and I finished weeding in an area of the Daffodil bed where we planted a Little Princess Spirea [Spirea japonica]. We added water and Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food to the hole where we did the planting. We covered the area with 1 2 ft3 bag of pine bark mini nuggets. Sharon sprinkled Extended Control Preen on the mulch and I watered the area.

The plant was obtained from Home Depot.

Blaauw’s Pink Azalea

Sharon and I planted 3 Blauuw’s Pink Azalea plants in the front bulb bed. We added water and Miracle-Gro Shake‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food to the hole where we did the planting. These plants were obtained on sale from Home Depot.

Then, we started weeding part of the Daffodils bed. Most of the weeds were Bermuda Grass and Violets.

Sharon and I planted 2 Mugo Pines in the beds in the front yard that contained the Cranberry Cotoneasters [Cotoneaster apiculatis]. We added water and Miracle-Gro Shake ‘n Feed All Purpose Plant Food to the holes where we did the planting. We covered each bed with 2 2 ft3 bags of pine bark mini nuggets. Sharon sprinkled Extended Control Preen on the mulch and I watered the areas.

Watered the plants in the Halloween display and several other plants which we had purchased recently. Sharon dead-headed the Chrysanthemums in the Halloween display.

Gardening Diary – October 15, 2021

Cranberry Cotoneasters removed.

Sharon and I removed the 2 Cranberry Cotoneasters in the front yard. In addition, we weeded the beds that contained these plants. The weeds were primarily Bermuda grass and Violets.

Sharon finished weeding the Bulb bed. Finished mulching this bed with pine bark mini-nuggets mulch.

Then started mulching the Rose bed also with pine bark mini-nuggets mulch.

A total of 10 2 ft3 bags of mulch was used today and yesterday. The mulch was purchased from Home Depot.

Noah continued to prune the Deutzia Magician [Deutzia x hybrida ‘MAGICIEN’].

Gardening Diary – October 5, 2021

 Took 6 bags of weeds to the dump.


According to the Facebook page for the National Weather Service Morristown, expecting rain for today and the next 3 days:


Several rounds of showers and a few thunderstorms are forecast over the next couple of days with the highest rainfall totals expected in portions of southeast Tennessee and southwestern North Carolina. There is potential for localized flooding, especially in these areas tomorrow into tomorrow night.
