Mugo Pine and Red Twig Dogwood

[Pinus mugo], [Cornus sericea]

Sprayed the edges of the Mugo Pine beds, the Red Twig Dogwood bed, the driveway, the front porch bed, the Sunny Knock Out Roses bed and the Daffodils bed with Ortho GroundClear Weed & Grass Killer. Had problems with a couple of sprayers; fortunately, found a sprayer that worked very well.

Weeded the front porch bed while Sharon weeded the front bulb bed.

Between Quince and Coppertina® Ninebark

Sharon also pruned the Coppertina® Ninebark [Physocarpus opulifolius ‘Mindia’] and other bushes creating the walkway shown in the picture above.

Blue Cascade Evergreen Distylium

Noticed that the remains of the Blue Cascade Evergreen Distylium in the Daffodils bed had some growth. Pruned the limbs that didn’t show any leaves.

Sunny Knock Out Roses bed

While Sharon was weeding the front bulb bed, I weeded both sides of the Sunny Knock Out Roses bed.

Purple Smoke Bush bed

Sprayed the weeds in the Purple Smoke Bush bed with Ortho Groundclear Super. This herbicide was also sprayed on some weeds in our driveway.

Had to add a cap to the dripper that was in the Pink Drift Roses [Rosa ‘Meijocos’].

There was a couple of holes in the water line near one of the Sunny Knock Out Roses [Rosa ‘Radsunny’]. Unfortunately, I cut out more than I should have so I had to use 2 poly couplings to join the pieces of the water line together.

Gardening Diary – June 14, 2022

 

Repaired water line.

Dug up the soil where I saw the spray of water last night to find the water line. Found several holes in 2 parallel lines about 1/4″ apart in the water line. Unsure about what caused the holes. Cut out about 1″ of the water line which contained the holes. Joined the 2 ends of the remaining water line with a poly coupling.

Heat advisory was in effect from Noon to 8pm with a predicted high of 94^o with heat index values up to 108^o.

Gardening Diary – June 6, 2022

 

Sharon replacing Gerbera Daisy.

One of the Gerbera Daisies planted May 28 died and Sharon replaced it with another one purchased from Home Depot.

While she was doing this, completed adding pine bark mini nuggets to the Daffodils bed and placed some of this mulch to the Flowering Cherry bed.

Diane Witch Hazel

Sharon and I weeded again the Diane Witch Hazel [Hamamelis × intermedia ‘Diane’] and spread 4.5 2 ft³ bags of pine bark mini nuggets around its bed.

Serviceberry

Sharon and I then weeded the Serviceberry [Amelanchier sp.] again and some of the bed next to the bed containing the Serviceberry which contains the Pink Muhly Grasses [Muhlenbergia capillaris].

Mugo Pine.

Sharon and I weeded the other bed containing a Mugo Pine [Pinus mugo].

Sharon spreading mulch around the Red Twig Dogwood

Then Sharon and I weeded around the Red Twig Dogwood [Cornus sericea]. Pruned some of the branches off the Red Twig Dogwood.

Sharon spread 1.5 2 ft³ bags of pine bark mini nuggets around the Mugo Pine bed and then spread 2.5 2 ft³ bags of pine bark mini nuggets around the Red Twig Dogwood bed.

Took the weeds from yesterday and today and the branches pruned off the Red Twig Dogwood over to Dave’s gulley.

Sharon and I weeded one of the beds containing a Mugo Pine [Pinus mugo]. After placing 2 2 ft³ bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch on this bed, Sharon spread it around the bed.
