Gardening Diary – October 25, 2022

 Sharon and I were finally able to take the wagon with the weeds from October 6 over to Dave’s gulley. Mike had moved some of the refuse from the cutting of the big tree in his front lawn over to Dave’s gulley about 12 days ago. The people who cut down Mike’s tree had placed a lot of the refuse in Dave’s gulley the previous week.

Chrysanthemums

Sharon and I removed the annual plants which were killed by a freeze several days ago from the Flowering Cherry bed. We also weeded this bed; most of the weeds were either Onions or Violets.

We placed in this bed the 4 Chrysanthemums [Chrysanthemum sp.] which we had purchased yesterday from Stanley’s.

The 2 fall decorations were purchased also yesterday but from Hobby Lobby.

Gardening Diary – October 21, 2022

 

Mugo Pine and Red Twig Dogwood

Sharon and I weeded the 2 beds containing the Mugo Pines [Pinus mugo]. Most of the weeds were Onions and Violets.

We added 3 2 ft³ bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch to each of these beds. 1 bag of mulch was added to the bed containing the Red Twig Dogwood [Cornus sericea]; we need to get some more mulch to cover this bed.

We finally used all of the mulch that we had purchased on ???. We broke apart the palette and placed the pieces in back of the Mazda so we can dispose of it at the dump.

Sharon and I finished weeding the Smoke Bush bed. Moved about 10 2 ft3 bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch to this bed. Then Sharon (mostly) and I spread the mulch over this bed.

Gardening Diary – October 14, 2022

Sunny Knock Out Roses bed

Sharon continued to weed the Sunny Knock Out bed.

Swept up the mulch that was on driveway side of the recently installed EasyFlex Scallop Woodgrain No-Dig Edging on the Sunny Knock Out Roses bed and placed the mulch on the other side of the Edging.

Opened the 3 bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch that was on the Sunny Knock Out bed and moved and opened 6 more bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch to the same bed. Sharon, using a rake, spread the mulch over this bed.

Gardening Diary – October 10, 2022

 

Sunny Knock Out Roses bed

Sharon weeded the Sunny Knock Out bed. Most of the weeds were Onions and Violets. There were also patches of Bermuda Grass; I sprayed Ortho Grass B Gon on these patches.

Installed 2 rolls of EasyFlex Scallop Woodgrain No-Dig Edging 20-ft Black Plastic Landscape Edging Roll on the Sunny Knock Out bed about 5-6 inches away from the driveway. When there has been heavy rains, some of the mulch on the Sunny Knock Out bed would float to the driveway. We hope that the edging would prevent this in the future. We had to place the edging away from the driveway since the plastic nails could not be placed nearer the edge of the driveway.

September 2022 Climate Summary

Gardening Diary – October 3, 2022

 Sharon and I took the wagon containing the weeds from last Friday over to Dave’s gulley.

Sharon and I took the pot containing the Mandevilla Vine [Mandevilla sp.] and moved it to the back porch. The predicted low for tonight is 45^o F. Last week, moved the Buddha Belly [Jatropha podagrica] to the back porch since some of the predicted lows during the week were in the high 40’s.
