Purple Smoke Bush Bed.
Picture taken on 9 March 2021.

Continued weeding the Purple Smoke Bush bed and spread out bags of pine bark mini nuggets mulch on most of the bed.

Sprayed Ortho GroundClear Weed and Grass Killer on the area between the mulch and the grass or the road. Was worried that the temperature was too low for the herbicide to work; however about an hour later, the weeds appeared to be dead. As this herbicide does not kill the roots of the weeds, we’ll use Ortho GroundClear Super Weed and Grass Killer1 in the future.

Started weeding the Sunny Knock Out Rose bed.

Gardening Diary – March 2, 2021

For the last day of preparing the straw bales, fertilized all the straw bales using Alaska Morbloom Fertilizer (0-10-10). On all but two of the straw bales, used 1 cup of this fertilizer in a gallon of water on 1 straw bale; on each of the last 2 straw bales, had available only 1/2 cup of this fertilizer in a gallon of water.

Diane Witch Hazel
[Hamamelis × intermedia ‘Diane’]
Picture taken on March 2, 2021.

Went to the front yard to work on the Diane With Hazel [Hamamelis × intermedia ‘Diane’]. On March 18 of last year, remove part of a sucker of this plant. Unfortunately, the sucker was too close to rest of the plant to completely remove the sucker. As a result, there was a lot of growth from the sucker which is seen in the photo (left above) as the tall branches in the middle.

Removed these branches.
