Picture taken on August 16, 2022.

Weed-eated the walkway next to the Butterfly Bush bed and the Lenten Rose bed.

Did some pruning of the Indigo Bush [Amorpha fruticosa] to facilitate weeding of the Hydrangea bed and the walkway along the left walkway along the latter bed.

Weeded the Hydrangea bed concentrating on getting rid of the Pokeweeds [Phytolacca americana] and Maypop Passionflower vines [Passiflora incarnata].

Sharon and I weeded raised bed #7 after taking off the net. Sharon also weeded the walkway between raised beds #7 and #8 and did some pruning of the Cardinal Red Twig Dogwood [Cornus sericea ‘Cardinal’]. She also removed some Maypop Passionflower vines [Passiflora incarnata] contained in the Cardinal Red Twig Dogwood.

Gardening Diary – August 13, 2022

The hose that we attached to the adjustable dripper stake a couple of days ago became unattached. Cut off the end of the hose and reattached the hose to the adjustable dripper stake.

Watered the front yard for approximately 1 1/2 hours.

Mandevilla Vine
[Mandevilla sp.]
Picture taken on August 12, 2022.

Added a sprinkler to the pot containing the Mandevilla Vine [Mandevilla sp.] and fixed the water outlet on one of the Sunny Knock Out Roses [Rosa ‘Radsunny’].

Red Twig Dogwood and Mugo Pines
[Cornus sericea] and [Pinus mugo]
Picture taken on August 12, 2022.

As seen in the photo above, it appears that my spraying Ortho GroundClear Year Long Vegetation Killer around the edges of the beds in the front yard and on the part of the Purple Smoke Bush bed along the road didn’t cover all of the weeds. Therefore, I sprayed some more herbicide on the weeds that didn’t appear to be covered by the first spraying.

Sharon pruned the Purple Smoke Bush [Cotinus Coggygria] so that we can back our cars more easily.

I pruned the Red Leaf Barberry Hedge [Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’] that was closest to the street.

Sharon and I collected all the cut off foliage and dumped them in Dave’s gulley.

Gardening Diary – August 9, 2022

Red Twig Dogwood and Mugo Pines beds.
[Cornus sericea] and [Pinus mugo]
Picture taken on August 12, 2022.

Sprayed Ortho GroundClear Year Long Vegetation Killer around the edges of the beds in the front yard and on the part of the Purple Smoke Bush bed along the road.

Sharon and I went to the back to continue to clean up the Butterfly Bush bed. Unfortunately, a tree had fallen in Dave’s yard and he was moving the branches to his gulley.

There was no room remaining in the gulley to empty our wagon. So we needed to bag the weeds that we got last week and that we got today.

Mandevilla Vine
[Mandevilla sp.]
Picture taken on August 9, 2022.

Bought a trellis from Amazon last week, it arrived yesterday and we installed it today so that the Mandevilla Vine [Mandevilla sp.] will be supported by it.

Noah had his first day of class today and since he was released at noon, we went to pick him up.

[Allium ‘Millennium’]
Picture taken on August 9, 2022.

After supper, when Sharon took the dogs outside, she started to weed some areas in the backyard including the bed containing the Millennium Allium Ornamental Onions [Allium ‘Millennium’]. We are thinking about moving them to the front in the Fall.

Black and Yellow Argiope
[Argiope aurantia]

As Sharon and I were walking back to the house, we noticed a Black and Yellow Argiope spider [Argiope aurantia] building a web around the Ground Orchids [Bletilla striata ‘Alba’] in the second bulb bed.

Gardening Diary – August 3, 2022

Using the reciprocating saw, cut 5 limbs off of the Hardy Bensonhurst Purple Fig Tree [Ficus carica].

Butterfly Bush bed and path along the latter bed.
Picture taken on August 9, 2022.

Sharon and I then continued weeding in the Butterfly Bush bed and we pruned many branches off of the Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush [Buddleia davidii  ‘Bicolor’]. We have decided to remove the Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush. Unfortunately, a tree had fallen in Dave’s yard and he was moving the branches to his gulley. There was no room remaining in the gulley to empty our wagon.

Sometime this week, we picked up bunch of pieces of wood (e.g., sides of Noah’s bed, posts used to keep covers of beds down, edging, etc.) and took the load along with Sharon’s broken walker to the Knox County dump.
